Bangkok

Close encounter with a Tuk Tuk

Close encounter with a Tuk Tuk

Its 28 degrees, sunny and our hotel has a rooftop bar and swimming pool. My hotel room is about the size of our flat and I have four massive low cost shopping centers within walking distance.

Sounds like a great holiday doesn’t it? Well actually I’m here for work, its a hard life :o )

Blue skies

Went to Richmond to pick up my bridesmaids’ dresses and the weather was absolutely super gorgeous. Must be the first blue sky of the year!

Two buckets of Christmas tree

How do you fit a whole tree into the rubbish bin? Chop it up! It’s the only way now that we’ve missed the council’s official pick up date :-)

If you go down the woods today

Any sane Swedish person knows who to be afraid of  in the forest. Its not the Moose, and surprisingly its not the wolves or the bear either. Its a far more vicious and blood thirsty creature than that – the badger. Its fangs would make any vampire proud and its tiny solid little body with its stubby little legs can move with supernatural speed.

Friend of foe?

Our neighbours' friendly warning

Our neighbours' friendly warning

You don’t usually get a pre-warning but on Monday night I found a message pinned on our front door – the enemy is drawing closer and I am now prepared with eggshells in my boots. The eggshells are there to protect my bones as badgers don’t let go until they hear your bones crush…

Don’t believe me? Check out this eyewitness account.

Baker Street Cinema

They are probably the only cinema in the world who could get away with it :-)

Absolute genius…

Is it a bird? No!

First it checks how tall you are & adjusts itself accordingly...

First it checks how tall you are & adjusts itself accordingly...

Is it time traveling machine? No! Its the Swedish Embassy’s new passport machine. Its an amazing piece of equipment, first it takes your photo, then you put your fingers on the green screen and it takes your fingerprints, finally you sign your autograph in the red box and voila you can see your finished passport on the big screen! Its an amazing £125 experience!

It doesn’t actually print the passport though, you have to wait two weeks for that.

Then, it takes all your vital information...

Sunday easy listening

Apart from lie-ins that last until midday and breakfast in bed, one of my favourite things about Sunday mornings is listening to Friday comedy podcast on my way to battersea.

Today was such a day, but I was feeling quite sleepy and couldn’t seem to understand any of the jokes. I know I have my very own sense of humour but I can usually at least recognise the punchline even if I don’t laugh out loud. Today however they were speaking ridiculously fast and I eventually gave up and started staring at people on the train instead.

After three hours of dog walking I was feeling brave and again attempted the comedy podcast. I was very proud to discover that I accidentaly discovered an entirely new function on my iPhone. Double speed. Great for techno, not so good for comedy it turns out.

For the benefit of all you who would like to try this in your own home, I have included a snaphot below.

Tiger Tree

We’ve been catsitting our upstairs neighbours cats for the last couple of days and they’ve been great. Well, when I say great I mean they’ve been great at hiding, playing and climbing and everyhing else little kittens do.

Found one of them hiding in the Christmas tree earlier, see photo evidence number one. She seemed awfully pleased with herself and was not interested in climbing down any time soon, see photo 2.

Santa’s last minute tipple

Santa's New Year Tipple

Santa's New Year Tipple

Its Christmas day and you have two hours until you need to go to a party and you have not thought of buying anything to bring. And besides, all the shops are closed anyway.

What to do? Well, its Christmas so you probably have some spare cranberries, cinnamon sticks and apples laying around. Then all you need to do is find an abandoned bottle of vodka from last summer’s BBQ’s and some cute ribbons and Bob’s your uncle.

The home made, very impressive cranberry, apple, cinnamon vodka is born. Total time to completion, 30 minutes. Total cost £0. Perfect. Here’s the recipe.
